Pre-Appointment Prep
Don’t Trim or Groom Before Your Service
Your hair must be at least 1/4” (the length of a grain of rice) or longer by the time of your appointment to do the treatment. If you have trimmed or shaved within a week of your appointment, you should double check the length of your hair.
Exfoliate
To prepare your skin, gently exfoliate 2 days before your appointment but not in the 24 hours immediately before your session. In other words, give your skin a day to rest after exfoliation.
Creams
Don’t use moisturizer, oils, lotions or topical creams of any kind on the treatment area on the day of your appointment. Avoid retinoid creams at least 48 hours before your appointment. Do not apply deodorant if getting underarms sugared.
Piercings
If you have piercings in any of the areas we will be sugaring, plan on removing them before treatment.
Clean clothes
If you've been to the gym or running about all day in the same clothes, it's best to change into something fresh and clean after your appointments. Not a deal-breaker, but highly recommended.
Sun exposure
Avoid tanning at least 48 hours before your appointment.
Exercise
If you work out before your appointment, give your body time to fully cool down before you arrive. Sweat and sugar don’t mix well.
Pain management
You might want to take any over-the-counter pain killer that you are comfortable with. Avoid caffeine starting a few hours before your appointment. Caffeine is a stimulant and will increase sensations.
Aftercare
1-2 days after treatment
The first 48 hours are crucial. The basic principle is to avoid anything that might irritate your skin or introduce bacteria / irritants to your open follicles, which need time to relax and heal.
Exercise: Wait 24 hours before you do anything that will cause you to sweat.
Irritants: Wait 48 hours to enjoy hot tubs, pools, sauna & steam rooms, swimming, sun and sun lotions in general. Skin is more susceptible to bacteria and UV rays during this time.
Sex: Wait 24 hours. Personal lubricants can irritate the follicles and too much friction will do the same.
Clothing: Wear clean, loose-fitting, comfortable clothes (or none at all) for the first 24 hours.
Cleanse: Use a gentle, fragrance-free skin wash for the first 3-5 days after treatment. If you are prone to breakouts, we recommend an antiseptic skin wash for all areas except the sac & crack. Product recommendation: CeraVe Hydrating Body Wash or Dyna-hex Antiseptic Skin Wash
Moisturize: Only use a fragrance free, non-comedogenic moisturizer in the first 3 days. Product recommendation: Derma-E Tea Tree & Vitamin E Cream
Treat Skin Irritation: If you see pimples within the first few days after treatment, add a benzoyl peroxide wash and topical exfoliant to your regimen. Use only in the areas affected. Product recommendation: PFB Vanish Roll-on and/or CeraVe Acne Foaming Cream Cleanser
3-5 days after treatment
The basic principle is to make it easier for your hair to grow back by keeping your skin supple, soft, and your follicles free of dead skin cells.
Exfoliate: Begin exfoliating 3-5 days after your treatment. A washcloth or shower mitt with a gentle, fragrance-free soap will do. We can help you create a personal exfoliation regimen that works with your skin type. Types of exfoliation:
- Washcloth w/ gentle soap like CeraVe Hydrating Body Wash
- Exfoliating body wash - We recommend CeraVe SA Wash)
- Scrub - topical scrubs like sugar, coffee, salt & other semi-abrasives (1x/week)Ingrown Hairs: If you do see an ingrown hair, begin treatment with a topical exfoliant immediately. Product recommendation: PFB Vanish
Grooming: Do not clip, trim, shave or otherwise groom the areas of treatment. Allow your hair to grow back to treatment length (1/4”) before you next appointment
